The Rivera High School Choral Department consists of over 300 students in eight performing ensembles: Chorale, Advanced Women's Chorus, Men's Chorus, Treble Choir along with the Pop/Jazz Ensembles Accord, Affinity, and Audacity. The Rivera Choirs perform a Fall Concert, Winter Concert, University Interscholastic League Concert and Sight-reading Contest and a themed, choreographed Spring Concert in May. The Choir members also participate in the Region 28 UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest and TMEA Region 28 auditions for Texas All-State Choir. Members of the choir can choose to attend the Spring Trip in which we travel to a destination spot, in Texas or out of state like to New York, Washington D.C., Chicago and others. The students perform and learn about culturally different places. In recent years the Rivera High School Choir Department has began to produced multiple Sweepstakes awards at the UIL Concert and Sight-reading contest, and continually places students into the Texas All-State ensembles every year. Past members of the Rivera choirs have gone on to major in vocal performance, music education or have joined university choirs to express their musical enjoyment.
Members of the Rivera Choirs will readily tell you that membership in the Rivera choirs calls for personal integrity, self-discipline, dedication and devotion. Many choir students are actively involved with other school activities such as football, cheerleading, swimming, dance, tennis, National Honor Society, cross country, track, band, theatre, journalism, academic decathlon, and many other organizations all while maintaining a high level of involvement in the choral program. In the choir room, students are challenged daily to work within their ensembles to prepare, polish and perform varied musical genres to share with the community. We are proud of our daily and weekly accomplishments and strive to continue to raise the bar in the Valley!
